Here, we discuss the concept of reuse: how in our professional and personal lives we can effectively use items multiple times, instead of throwing them away after a single use. When dental professionals first contemplate the concept of reuse, concerns over infection control spring to mind. Yet when we stop and think about it, many items in a dental office are already commonly reused, like hand-scaling instruments and instrument trays, items that are properly sterilized or disinfected before they are used again. In our daily lives, we have even more opportunities to reuse items, everything from cloth shopping bags to water bottles. We challenge you to consider the impact of our throwaway society and to stop and think about what you can do today to choose items that can be used over and over again. Remember: If you reuse something, you save all of the energy and resources necessary to make a new one. That makes sense for the planet and pocketbook. your
